Benefits of Ozone Therapy & Conditions It Helps Treat
Reviews of Ozone Therapy
Contents:
Ozone is one of the most critical gases found in the stratosphere layer of the atmosphere. This special gas acts as a protective filter against the sun’s high-energy ultraviolet rays, supporting the biological balance in the biosphere.
Ozone used in medicine is produced from pure oxygen in special generators. The benefits of ozone therapy are one of the most frequently asked questions by patients before undergoing this treatment. These benefits vary depending on the patient’s condition.
What is Ozone Therapy and How is it Performed?
Ozone therapy, which has recently become a popular treatment option in addition to traditional treatment methods, is performed using ozone, an unstable form of oxygen consisting of three atoms. The ozone gas used for treatment is produced from pure oxygen using medical ozone generators, but the ozone produced is always mixed with oxygen.
This treatment is also known as “oxygen therapy” or “ozone therapy” and plays an effective role in the treatment of various conditions and diseases, from skin diseases to infections, in accordance with doctors’ recommendations.

How Is Ozone Therapy Performed?
Ozone therapy can be defined as exposing the body to ozone gas for the purpose of treating certain diseases or healing wounds. The ozone molecule is a natural gas consisting of three oxygen atoms (O3) and is colorless. This treatment method can be applied in different forms and can be examined in general terms in the table below.
Method | Application Form |
Application Method Application Form | In this method, the area of the body to be treated is left exposed while the other parts are covered with a sheet. Then, an appropriate dose of ozone gas is applied to the skin to ensure that it penetrates the skin. This procedure is commonly referred to as an ozone sauna. It is also possible to apply an appropriate dose of ozone solution to the skin to accelerate wound healing and reduce the risk of infection. |
Blowing Ozone Gas into the Body | Ozone gas is usually administered into the body through the ears, vagina, or rectum. However, this procedure is generally not the preferred approach. |
Autohemotherapy | In this method, ozone gas is a molecule that can dissolve in blood. The blood of the person seeking treatment is drawn into a tube, mixed with ozone gas, and then re-administered to the person intravenously. This procedure is known as autohemotherapy and is divided into different classes. |
Oral Ozone Therapy | Ozone gas can be dissolved in oil or water and taken orally, allowing it to be absorbed through the intestines. |
Injection into Muscles | Ozone therapy can be administered by injection into the muscles and is usually used in combination with oxygen. A liquid containing oxygen and ozone molecules is injected into the person’s muscles using a needle. |
Our clinic aims to achieve the best results by planning ozone therapy treatments specifically for each patient. Once the method to be used has been determined, the necessary information is provided to the patient.
Autohemotherapy Method
As mentioned above, autohemotherapy is one of the methods that can be used for ozone therapy. This application is divided into two categories: major and minor. Autohemotherapy Method
In the first method, known as the major method, 200 to 270 mL of blood is taken from the patient; then, the appropriate dose of ozone gas is added to the blood. The blood is allowed to remain in contact with the gas for 5 to 10 minutes. The ozonated gas is then returned to the patient via the vein within 15 minutes. The amount of ozone used in this procedure may vary from patient to patient and from center to center.
Ozone administered into the blood is buffered by plasma, thereby reducing any potential harmful effects. In the absence of plasma, the hemolysis rate may increase by 10% when red blood cells come into contact with ozone present in SF. The threshold amount at which ozone begins to exhibit its antioxidant effect is specified as 15 to 20 μg/mL; at concentrations below this amount, ROS are neutralized by the existing antioxidant mechanism without exhibiting any effect.
Under normal circumstances, ozone therapy is performed twice a week, but it has been reported that there are no problems even when it is performed every day, or even three times a day. Ozone therapy is also administered in the form of minor autohemotherapy. Here, 5 mL of blood is taken and mixed with an equal volume of ozone; the foam is immediately administered intramuscularly into the muscle area.
Diseases That Benefit From Ozone Therapy
Ozone therapy is a method used today for many diseases and disorders. There are many answers to the question of which diseases ozone therapy is good for. Medical ozone is used in lumbar disc herniation, stroke, cancer, joint diseases, and muscle, tendon, and soft tissue diseases. The necessary explanations for each of these can be found below.
Disease | Use |
Lumbar Disc Herniation (Lower Back and Neck Herniations) | This condition is not initially treated with open surgery; other methods are tried first. Ozone therapy is one such method; the ozone applied oxidizes the mucopolysaccharides in the nucleus pulposus. By increasing cellular metabolism in the tissue, it reduces the volume of the herniation. It also reduces pressure on the blood vessels, thereby exerting anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Lumbar Disc Herniation (Lower Back and Neck Herniations) |
Stroke (Paralysis) | Ozone significantly reduces fractional anisotropy values in magnetic resonance diffusion tensor imaging of the brain and improves brain function, making it a viable option for stroke treatment. |
Cancer | Based on the fact that cancer cannot grow in a high-oxygen environment, ozone therapy is used in cancer patients. |
Joint diseasesIn | a study conducted with 220 patients with osteoarthritis, a reduction in joint pain was observed following ozone therapy. |
Muscle, Tendon, and Soft Tissue Disorders | This method is frequently used in cases of fibromyalgia, tendinitis, epicondylitis, bursitis, and sports injuries. |
As can be seen from this perspective, ozone therapy is used in many areas today. Therefore, ozone therapy has a wide range of applications for various diseases. In addition to all this, it is also used in different patient profiles. For example, in patients who have undergone ozone therapy, we have observed a reduction in pain caused by cervical herniation.
In addition to these, our clinic also performs ozone therapy in different situations. Ozone is preferred in the treatment of diseases as well as in the purification of water due to its ability to prevent the growth of fungi and bacteria. This treatment can prevent infections, especially in fungal diseases that occur in the foot area. In addition, it can also be performed in the following situations if the patient profile is suitable:
- Intestinal diseases such as ulcerative colitis, fissures, and fistulas
- General immune system deficiency
- Dizziness (Vertigo)
- Fatigue, mental and physical exhaustion
- Sleep disorders
- Resistant urinary tract infections, bacterial and fungal vaginal infections, sleep disorders

Who Can Undergo Ozone Therapy, Which Patients Are Eligible?
Ozone therapy is not applicable to every patient profile. In general, patients who do not undergo this therapy are those who,
- People who have recently had a heart attack
- Pregnant women
- Uncontrolled hyperthyroidism
- Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase enzyme deficiency or favismUncontrolled hyperthyroidism
- Diseases such as leukemia and hemophilia
- People with ozone allergies
It is possible. It can be administered under the supervision of a doctor outside of the aforementioned patient profiles. Before starting this treatment, our clinic examines patients appropriately and asks them a series of questions to determine whether they are suitable for this therapy. If they are not suitable, our specialist physicians may suggest alternative solutions.
If this method is suitable for our patient, this therapy is carried out in a planned manner according to the needs, illness, and constitution of the person concerned.

How Long Does Ozone Therapy Take to Show Results?
Ozone therapy methods aim to administer ozone to the patient safely. The amount of ozone gas and which method to use is determined by the doctor based on the patient’s specific condition. Therefore, ozone therapy is personalized and administered under the guidance of a doctor.
When ozone therapy takes effect may vary depending on the disease and the individual’s characteristics. However, for those considering ozone applications for health purposes or detoxification treatments, the ozone dose can be increased with each session. Treatment is usually carried out in 10 to 16 sessions, but treatment sessions can be adjusted according to the patient’s needs.
For example, patients can receive treatment twice a week, with a three-day interval between sessions. Each treatment session lasts approximately 15 minutes, and patients can resume their daily activities immediately after treatment. This answers the question of when ozone therapy takes effect.
Benefits of Ozone Therapy
The benefits of ozone therapy are evident in terms of physiology, organs, skin, and body metabolism. In this regard, our clinic can administer ozone therapy to patients deemed suitable in different circumstances. Benefits of Ozone Therapy
Physiological Benefits
Ozone therapy for pain can be effective in strengthening the immune system and fighting infections. Ozone can reduce inflammation by contributing to the strengthening of the immune system. Many people suffer from health problems that cause inflammation in certain areas on a regular basis.
For example, asthma patients often have inflammatory markers in their blood. Inflammation can cause a condition called oxidative stress, which disrupts the balance between free radicals and antioxidants in the body. This type of stress is often associated with pain and discomfort.
People who receive regular ozone therapy often report a reduction in inflammation caused by oxidative stress. Ozone therapy controls inflammation and can also control inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and disorders such as Crohn’s disease.
Organs
Ozone therapy has different applications and uses within the scope of organs. When applied correctly, this method generally provides the following benefits:
- Strengthening the respiratory system
- Inactivating bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, and yeast
- Stimulate your immune system
- Improving the circulatory system by cleaning arteries and veins
- Relief of pain in wounds and fractures
- Limiting impact damage
- Reduction of abnormal heart rhythm
- Improving brain function and memory
In this regard, ozone therapy has many benefits for the organs. However, it should not be forgotten that the method must be used correctly.
Skin
Ozone therapy can be used to treat various skin conditions due to its beneficial effects. Eczema is one such condition. This method was applied to 108 patients with different types and degrees of eczema; after treatment, 90% of the patients experienced complete recovery, and their symptoms disappeared. In 67% of cases, clinical remission continued six months after treatment.
Buruli ulcer is also included in this scope. Ozone therapy has been applied in different ways to patients with Buruli ulcer, and encouraging results have been obtained. This method has also been used for a long time to eliminate cellulite.
In this context, a series of treatments were administered to patients with cellulite problems, and the treatment resulted in a noticeable improvement in the appearance of cellulite.
Body Metabolism
Ozone therapy can be considered a type of vaccination method that stimulates the body and speeds up metabolism. It is known that this treatment is effective by increasing the amount of energy obtained from fat in the body. However, expecting weight loss solely from ozone therapy is not a realistic approach. Weekly ozone therapy sessions, when combined with a proper diet and exercise program, can generally facilitate significant weight loss within an average of three months.
Ozone therapy helps regulate blood sugar and can promote a general sense of well-being in individuals undergoing treatment. It also helps control appetite more easily, supports feeling more energetic in the morning, and can facilitate weight loss by increasing mobility. For individuals with a slow metabolism, a high tendency to gain weight, and difficulty losing weight, ozone therapy can be an important supportive treatment method that helps achieve and maintain an ideal body weight.
Reviews of Ozone Therapy
Nowadays, there are many people who undergo ozone therapy. These patients can share their experiences after treatment, and it is easy to access this information; however, it is important to remember that medical treatments are determined on a case-by-case basis for each patient.
In this regard, it is necessary to always approach patients’ comments on medical issues, including comments from those who have undergone ozone therapy, with caution. Our clinic plans these procedures individually for each patient and provides specific recommendations on issues that require attention before and after the procedure.
In order to achieve the best results after the application, individuals must pay attention to these factors. In addition, during the examination, patients must provide accurate answers to questions related to the treatment process, such as previous illnesses and medications used. These answers are also of great importance in determining the appropriate treatment and method of ozone application.
